FOIA Request to Western Colorado University regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by Central Colorado News to Western Colorado University seeking access to educational materials from the most recent academic semester. The request specifically asked for a complete list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during Spring 2025. This includes syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or through hybrid formats.

The request also called for relevant metadata accompanying each syllabus. This includes details such as the course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and the course delivery format (online/in-person/hybrid). The media organization emphasized that obtaining these records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency in education.

Central Colorado News highlighted its role as a member of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, an organization dedicated to assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies. They have requested a fee waiver citing their status as a media professional engaged in public information dissemination.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
