Quantum Computing allows some mind-boggling tricks to increase computing power, most notably “splitting the universe into many parallel universes” and doing different computations in each. (You get very many computers working for you in parallel, but you only have to pay for one!) Used by Shor’s Factoring Algorithm, it poses a major threat to Internet Security / “RSA encryption” (just as soon as the hardware catches up).
